   Abstract                                                                                     

       In this thesis, I will be concerned with the recognition of phrasal    prepositions from simple prepositions in contemporary Persian language    and the emphasis is on the most common phrasal prepositions that have the sequence of « preposition + noun + Kasre Ezafe ». The paper intends to answer the following questions:                                                                      

    - Is there a definite border between phrasal prepositions and complex prepositions in Persian language?                                                                   

   - If the answer is no, which one in more suitable for Persian language, phrasal preposition or complex preposition?                                                  

   - Is it possible to consider criteria for the distinction of phrasal prepositions from free noun-phrase sequences in Persian language?            

     After collecting and analyzing data, I showed that complex prepositions have different degrees in Persian language and the existence of different ideas among traditional grammarians and some modern linguists is quite natural. I argued that the term phrasal preposition is more suitable than complex preposition in Persian language. I showed that there is no definite border between phrasal prepositions and complex prepositions in Persian language. I also showed that we can consider criteria for the distinction of phrasal prepositions from free noun-phrase sequences in Persian language.
